Walt Whitman Bicentennial Birth:
Themes of Birth, Childhood and Home

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019 (Rain Date, October 16th, 2019)

“Walt Whitman: Birth, Childhood and Home,” will be an outdoor celebration of the arts devoted to the American poet, essayist, and journalist’s life and work, celebrated on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019. This massive event will feature both current students and alumni from all arts disciplines, including the Visual Arts, Music, Theater, Dance, Communications, Film and Creative Writing Departments!

The Arts Festival will feature a large variety of events and activities around campus including: outdoor art created with alumna Brittany Baldwin, gigantic interactive piñatas created by the Art Department’s sculpture class, on-the-spot filming of student actors reading Creative Writing students’ work, an outdoor film screening, music performances, outdoor dance performances choreographed with alumni from the Dance Department, typewriters on location in various spaces for on-the-spot poetry and story writing, and live, immersive theatrical performance “installations” with alumna Shoshana Tarkow in different spaces around campus.
