Planned Events and Interactive Exhibits

  • Outdoor collaborative chalk art mural created on-site by Adelphi Alumna, Brittany Baldwin, with current Adelphi art students
  • Gigantic interactive piñatas created by the Art Department’s sculpture class
  • Large size canvases/banners displayed around UC renovation-art student mural competition
  • Chalk up for Adelphi community participants to create sidewalk chalk drawings
  • An immersive outdoor theatrical event organized by Theater alumna, Shoshana Tarkow, and in collaboration with current acting and film students, and in conjunction with an augmented reality word game, “On Words” through Wallame app.
  • First-year seminar courses participation based on Walt Whitman poetry
  • Creative writing students readings
  • Evening outdoor projected film screening
  • Music performances on various on outdoor location by current music students inspired by compositions created for Walt Whitman Birthplace
  • Outdoor dance performances choreographed with alumna, Joy Douglas, from the Dance Department
  • Typewriters on location in various spaces on campus for on-the-spot poetry and story writing. Writings hung on a clothesline near typewriter locations
  • Coordination with CSI and spirit week events and locations on campus

Immerse yourself in the Words of Walt Whitman, with augmented reality App, “On Words”, play along all day of Fall Arts Festival.

“On Words” through Wallame app Instructions

To Play:

  1. Download the Wallame mobile app for “On Words”.
  2. Collect lines, stanzas, and eventually entire poems!
  3. Search on campus for selections of poems from Whitman’s ‘Leaves of Grass’ (if you need a hint, look for the green ribbons on campus).
  4. At each “discoverable wall” words will leap off your phone and into the real world!
